Laboratory Visitation from Madrasah Mu'allimin Yogyakarta's Students

On December 27 2023, as many as 70 Mu'allimin madrasah students and 10 teachers visited the chemistry laboratory of the Chemistry Education Department, FMIPA UNY. The purpose of the visit was to find out about various experimental and research activities in the chemistry laboratory. On that occasion, the laboratory visit was welcomed by the ranks of the Chemistry Education Department, the Head of the Laboratory and all the laboratory assistants in the Chemistry Lab. There are 4 laboratories targeted, namely the Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry Laboratory, the Physical and Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory and the Chemical Instrumentation Laboratory. Some of the activities explained and demonstrated include:

1. Separate the mixture using an evaporator
2. Determination of the melting point of chemical compounds
3. Measurement of liquid viscosity
4. Surface tension measurement
5. Separation of the mixture by steam distillation and vacuum distillation
6. Use of a UV-Vis spectrophotometer

Students and teachers are very enthusiastic about taking part in this activity and hope that the Chemistry Laboratory of FMIPA UNY will provide permission and guidance if there is a group of students who will carry out simple research activities for KIR.
