VISITING SCHOLAR "COLLABORATION WITH TRABZON AND ATATURK UNIVERSITY TURKIYE"

As an effort to support UNY's vision of becoming a world class university, recently a lecturer in the Chemistry Education Study Program, Dr. Antuni Wiyarsi, M. Sc carried out Visiting Scholar activities to Turkiye from 8 June – 8 July 2022. Several activities were carried out in the context of lecturers' self-development, international collaborative research, as well as the initiation of students and staff's mobility programs. The first activity was held at the Faculty of Education, Trabzon University, Turkiye. Dr. Antuni Wiyarsi held research discussions and wrote publications in order to complete the post-doctoral program under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Muammer Çalık which was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and visiting class. Research and publications written related to local and global socio-scientific issues (SSI) to investigate scientific habits of mind of prospective teachers and analysis of the implementation of SSI-based instruction. This is very important in supporting prospective teachers' self-efficacy in using controversial scientific issues in learning to develop students' scientific literacy and argumentation skills.

 

Apart from that, lecturers also carried out international collaborative research FGDs with Trabzon University Assoc lecturers. Dr. Mirac Aydin and fellow chemistry department lecturer Nur Fitriyana, M.Pd. A phenomenological study was conducted to explore students' experiences of the seasons. This is very interesting considering that Indonesia and Turkiye have different seasons. Students in Turkiye have more diverse experiences and better understanding of the concept of seasons. The next activity carried out by the lecturer was related to the initiation of implementing collaboration with both Trabzon University and Ataturk University.

 

Dr. Antuni Wiyarsi held a meeting with the vice chancellor for academic affairs at Ataturk University, namely Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sozbilir in Erzurum, Turkiye and his team to discuss plans to implement the MoU between UNY and Ataturk University. Apart from the joint research and guest lectures that have been established so far with the chemistry education study program, in the future research collaboration with the chemistry study program will be expanded and sending students and lecturers to staff and student programs which are planned to be implemented in the even semester of 2022/2023. The entire series of activities is expected to facilitate increasing lecturer competence and increasing the cooperation network between FMIPA UNY and foreign universities/partners.
