Thesis Writing Tutorial Workshop for Chemistry Education Students year of 2018

Bachelor Thesis Final Project is a mandatory requirement for students of the chemistry education study program to obtain a Bachelor of Education (S.Pd) degree. As a supports for students to complete their thesis properly, correctly, and graduate in the fourth year, the Chemistry Education Study Program heldsa Workshop on Final Project Preparation Tutorial, Friday and Saturday, July 30-31 2021. This activity is focused on writing a Final Project Thesis Proposal (PTAS) and data analysis. Mr. Erfan Priyambodo M.Si as the activity chairman, gave directions to students to take advantage of workshop opportunities as a means of learning to do a good research. This activity was opened by the Head of the Department of Chemistry Education, Dr. Retno Arianingrun. A total of 57 students in 2018 participated in workshops accompanied by the Coordinator of the Chemistry Education Study Program, Dr. Antuni Wiyarsi, M.Sc.

The first material was delivered by Dina, M.Pd. He explained the material about general thesis writing. Based on the material presented, the thesis as a scientific work must be prepared in accordance with the enhanced spelling (EYD). The structure of sentences and paragraphs in the work must be prepared comprehensively and continuously. As for the tricks to understand the meaning of sentences and paragraph structure, the writer must read the writing repeatedly, so that the main ideas and problems studied can be communicated in writing well.

The second material on PTAS writing and data analysis prerequisite tests was delivered by Metridewi Primastuti, M.Pd. Several thesis proposals documents that have been written by students show that there is a discrepancy in the writing structure of the PTAS component with the 2016 TAS Writing Guidelines from UNY. Therefore, this material is presented with the hope that students can write down what must be in the manuscript according to the research method used. Experimental and developmental methods are the methods most favored by students, so that they were practice to doing prerequisite analysis tests to determine whether the data obtained can be tested with parametric statistics or not.

In addition to the method, each research has a different design and purpose, according to the problems revealed in the background of the research. In a study, of course there are references that are referred in order to gain an understanding of the problems revealed and the solutions offered by the research, so that writing citations and lists of references is very important to avoid plagiarism. This citation material was delivered by Nur Fitriyana, M.Pd by referring to the APA 7 rule. In addition, she also presented data analysis with different tests. Several different tests that are needed by students when viewed from the existing PTAS documents are paired sample t-test, one sample t-test, independent sample t-test, and one way ANOVA. Through this workshop, students have been provided with knowledge about TAS writing and the opportunity to try analyzing the data which can be a provide to writing and completing TAS well.
