Minute of Meeting 2021 of Chemistry Education Department

Friday, 04 June 2021, the Chemistry Education Department Student Association (HIMA) held a Chemistry Education Department Minute of Meeting. This activity is one of the work programs of the social department of the chemistry student association (HIMA) of FMIPA UNY which is routinely carried out once a year. This year, 2021, the dialogue will be held virtually through the zoom meeting facility. As an opening, the chairman on behalf of Faqih Saifudin, a student of the 2019 Chemistry Education Study Program, gave a speech, followed by remarks from the Head of the Chemistry Education Department, Dr. Retno Arianingrum, M.Si, and officially opened by the Dean of FMIPA Prof. Dr. Ariswan, M.Si.

In the Department's Dialogue activity, the Chemistry Education Department HIMA presented the data results of aspirations from students, lecturers and staff regarding to the implementation of lectures and facilities of the Department of Chemistry Education, FMIPA UNY. The data that submitted by the committee was obtained from aspiration questionnaires for students, questionnaires for lecturers and education staff, as participants. Participants can provide assessments, criticisms, and suggestions related to improvements that need to be improved. The topics discussed include everything related to lecture activities, facilities, services, learning outcomes, achievement of graduate competencies, and all things that support the progress of the Chemistry Education Department of UNY.

This year, the dialogue forum was dominated by several essential topics, namely 1) the effectiveness of online learning and ethics, 2) solutions for achieving student competence in laboratory skills as chemistry graduates during online lectures, 3) facility services during online lectures, 4) research and internships. Regarding student laboratory skills, the Department of Chemistry Education plans to have additional time for practical subjects that are part of the field of chemistry studies, in the gap between odd and even semesters, in chemistry the laboratory. However, this activity will be carried out taking into account the circular from the rector regarding COVID-19 and the readiness of herd immunity. As for internships and research, chemistry students can still carry out thesis research in a laboratory with a limited number of students and strict health protocols. In addition to chemistry students, education students who will carry out educational practices in schools can optimize laboratory facilities in schools for colloquial research. With research activities carried out by students, it is not impossible that they will contribute to the idea of ​​learning chemistry for schools. As long as lecture and service activities are carried out online, students can access library books, journals, academic services, and tracers via the web that has been provided.

In addition, considering that the Chemistry Education Master and Doctoral Study Program has taken shelter in the Chemistry Education Department, FMIPA UNY, so that the aspirations can be involved in the 2022 Minute of Meeting. The results of the minute of meeting, it is hoped that what is already good can be maintained and improved but if something is not good, it can be improved comprehensively, so as to bring change and progress to the Department of Chemistry Education.
