Congratulations, Prof. Drs. Jaslin Ikhsan, M.App.Sc., Ph.D

Saturday, November 21, 2020, at the UNY Auditorium, Prof. Drs. Jaslin Ikhsan, M.App., Sc., Ph.D was inagurated. With his inauguration as a Professor in the field of Chemistry, the Department of Chemistry Education has 11 professors. In his inauguration speech, he delivered his scientific findings entitled Model of Complexation and Modification of Clay Mineral Surfaces as New Materials and Their Benefits.

Prof. Jaslin Ikhsan, M.App., Sc., Ph.D said that his research was inspired by the dead sea's mud because of its properties in the health sector. In particular, clay minerals found in Indonesia, he identified have important benefits because they have a relatively high surface area. Some of the benefits of clay minerals that have been identified are (1) purification in Islamic law because dust has a very high surface area which can bind a large number of chemical compounds including compounds which are unclean sources; (2) reduce the bitter taste in vegetables by adding clay to the vegetable stew; (3) as a beauty scrub because it can attract dead skin and give freshness to the skin; (4) handling industrial wastewater; (5) consuming clay to attract toxic compounds in the stomach and maintain a healthy body; (6) filtering organic and inorganic compounds that endanger consumers so that the construction of the well must be at least 10 meters from the septic tank; and (7) attracting odor-causing gas molecules such as those produced by carcasses.

Through a speech delivered by Prof. Jaslin Ikhsan, M.App., Sc., Ph.D, the study of clay minerals is an interesting thing to be utilized and optimized in Indonesia to improve the welfare of life. Congratulations Prof. Jaslin Ikhsan, M.App., Sc., Ph.D.
