COLLABORATION OF UNY CHEMISTRY EDUCATION DEPARTMENT LECTURER AND TIDAR UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF ANIMAL FARMING INITIATES A MOSQUE-OWNED BUSINESS ENTITY (BUMAS)

One form of implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education is community service. By looking at the problems that exist in society, academics can share knowledge and technology to solve problems in society. One of the problems faced by the community is the problem of providing animal feed, especially during the long dry season. The community service team from the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UNY collaborates with the Study Program. Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Agriculture, Tidar University, Magelang, provides training in making dry and fermented animal feed from indigofera leaves. This team consists of Mrs. Dr. Siti Marwati, Mrs. Dr. Kun Sri Budiasih, Mr Sunarto, M.Si. The team from Tidar University Magelang was represented by Mrs. Dr. Lilis Hartati and Mrs. Nur Hidayah, M.P.

This community service activity was carried out on September 28 2023 in the sheep farming group in Sangubanyu Hamlet, Sumberrahayu, Moyudan, Sleman. The potential of 5600 m2 of land with 2300 indigofera plants and 200 kleresede plants managed by the local mosque is a great opportunity to diversify the results of cultivating these livestock plants. This service activity is carried out by providing knowledge to breeders to manage feed, especially during the long dry season and increasing income from the results of cultivating indigofera plants. The technology introduced to the public is feed fermentation technology and the manufacture of dry feed in the form of indigofera leaf powder. It is hoped that this feed product will not only meet the feed needs of this livestock group but can be supplied to breeders on a larger scale.
