Learn With Practitioner #3: Multidimensional Herbal Indonesia

Chemistry Education Study Program FMIPA UNY not only provides opportunities for students to learn about education. However, relevant chemistry is also a compulsory subject. One of the subjects studied is Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Therefore, on the occasion of Learn with Practitioner #3, Chemistry Education Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNY, presented an expert in the field of pharmacy, Dr. apt. Kintoko, S.F., M.Sc. Carrying the theme of Multidimensional Herbal Indonesia, as many as 67 students participated in this activity.

As lecturers and practitioners in the field of pharmacy, resource persons convey many things that are relevant to herbal medicines. As a tropical country, many natural materials are easily found in the surrounding environment. With certain developments and research, it is not impossible that natural chemicals can be utilized as basic, primary, and secondary metabolites. However, several factors that affect the quality of medicinal plants need to be considered, including: (1) genetic diversity which includes species and diversity, (2) the abiotic environment of plants such as soil and nutrients, water, temperature, quality and intensity of light, duration of lighting, altitude. growing, harvesting and postharvesting, and (3) the biotic environment such as gums, pests, and plant diseases.

Interesting and relevant information in everyday life inspires students' active participation in this activity. Many questions were asked by students to fulfill their curiosity about herbal medicines that are widely circulated in the market. Through Teaching Practitioners #3 is expected to be an insight that chemistry has many contributions in human life.
