Learn with Practitioner #1: Independent Entrepreneur at a Young Age

The entrepreneurial spirit was shared with joy by the alumni of the Department of Chemistry Education, Ramon Chandra Perdana through teaching practitioners activities. This activity was attended by 40 students of the 2019 Chemistry Education Study Program, accompanied by the Coordinator of the Chemistry Education Study Program, Dr. Antuni Wiyarsi, M.Sc and a lecturer in Chemistry-based Entrepreneurship, Dr. Siti Marwati. Not only about entrepreneurial theory, Ramon shares his career journey experiences.

Ramon graduated from the Department of Chemistry Education at UNY in 2014. While still in college, Ramon tried to grow oyster mushrooms and sell them to the market. However, raw mushrooms do not have a high selling value, so he has to innovate by making products made from mushrooms. DJamurQu is a crispy mushroom product developed by Ramon. At first, he sold this product at the bazaar on Sundays, with a stall rental of Rp. 5,000 per day. From this bazaar, DJamurQu's crispy mushroom products with various flavors have gained a lot of fans. He continued this business until it could be marketed outside Java with food processing and packaging methods to make it durable and safe. Chemistry plays an important role here. Currently Ramon has production houses, agents, distributors, and resellers with a turnover of Rp. 11,000,000 per month.

Seeing Ramon's success, it turns out that there are sacrifices that must be made. To the younger students, Ramon said that he was doing this business with pleasure. However, the joy was not enough, there are the most influential people to achieve this success. If parents want us to work in the office, then Ramon manages his mushroom business after office hours. The implementation of this activity is expected to be an encouragement for students so that they are not ashamed to start a business that looks simple.
